The forthcoming High-Speed Railway is a 113-kilometer train trip connecting Wonju with Pyeongchang and Gangneung. Combined with the existing railroad (Incheon~Wonju), there will be one complete rail line which traverses Korea from the east to the west coast. The line will complete the schedule for 2017 and will also serve the Pyeongchang region which is hosting the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

The existing railroad bypasses Pyeongchang, so travelers from Seoul must get off at Wonju and take a bus the rest of the way.That journey takes about two hours.The new train will cut that to 68 min. Going to Gangneung will take another 12 minutes. The new line will be the national trunk railway of Korea and speed the regional economic development.

This railway tunnel, which has an entire length of 1.160m with 8.100m outer radius and 7.400m inner radius, is the last TBM section at the city of Gangneung. One slurry TBM will be used for the mining. As the eyes and the helpful assistants of TBM, TUnIS Guidance system and Ring Sequencing, manufactured by VMT, will also be equipped. At the same time, VMT also provides the professional and customerized service for the client, e.g. Alignment calculation, TBM measurement in the workshop, Installation on the site, Calibration, TBM position calculation on the site, Training and so on. VMT always tries the best to make the assistance for the customer to run the guidance system and TBM successfully.

The new start of TBM will be as planned by the end of December, and the breakthrough will be expected in Aug, 2016.
